Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said that Luke Shaw is the best left-back in the world but he can’t play 60 games per season due to the horrible injury at the start of his career.
The England international has had another injury-plagued campaign with the Red Devils. He has made only 15 appearances in the campaign on the back of multiple muscular injuries.
Shaw has been ruled out of today’s FA Cup final against Manchester City, but there is an outside chance that he could make the 26-man squad for the European Championship with England.
In an interview with Voetbal International, Ten Hag was posed with multiple questions and one of those was centered on Shaw, who has been United’s regular left-back over the past decade.
The Dutchman said that Shaw is the best left-back in the world and he is so good. However, he added that the 28-year-old can never be able to play 60 games per season after his double leg break.
He said: “Luke Shaw is the best left back in the world. He is so good. But he has suffered a horrible injury at the start of his career and because of this he will NEVER be able to play 60 games per season.”
United need a strong competitor to Shaw next season
Shaw is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League, but he is no longer reliable due to injuries.
United tried to find a solution with Tyrell Malacia two years ago, but the Dutchman has had the same trouble. He has missed the whole 2023/24 season after a complicated knee surgery.
The Red Devils are now searching for a new left-back this summer. The club need to make the right signing and in our view, Stade Brestois left-back Bradley Locko would be a good acquisition.
The 22-year-old Frenchman has strong defensive qualities but has also impressed with his overlapping runs and accurate crosses into the box. He could be signed for around £17 million.
United will be in FA Cup final action against Manchester City in a few hours’ time. Diogo Dalot looks set to continue at left-back in the derby in the ongoing absence of Shaw and Malacia.
