Erik ten Hag reluctant to let Tom Heaton leave Manchester United this summer

Tom Heaton could remain at Manchester United beyond this summer as manager Erik ten Hag is reluctant to let him leave, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

Everton and Luton Town are both interested in signing the English goalkeeper, and he wants to speak with the Red Devils boss about his future.

The 37-year-old joined Man United from Aston Villa in 2021 and has played just thrice since.

Two of those appearances came last term and Heaton still wants to see action regularly as he is not looking to retire soon.

Man United have landed Andre Onana following the departure of David de Gea, and Dean Henderson is expected to be sold to Nottingham Forest.

The Old Trafford club have been linked with Fenerbahce goalie Altay Bayindir and Urawa Reds and Japan international goalie Zion Suzuki.

However, they could be reluctant about moving to the club as they both want to be guaranteed the starting berth before joining any side.

Heaton played in the friendly game against Arsenal on Saturday during the pre-season tour of the United States and did put in a great performance.

The former Burnley star is one of the best second-choice goalkeepers in the land, and why Ten Hag is unwilling to lose him is understandable.

Heaton brings much-needed experience and quality to the table and will easily walk into the starting line-ups of most mid-table teams in the Premier League.

He wants to play more after just three games over the last two seasons, and Ten Hag needs to convince him to stay.
