Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag refused to speak on Marcus Rashford’s individual form ahead of the club’s Premier League clash against Chelsea at Old Trafford tomorrow.
The England international has gone through a tough campaign by his high standards and he has netted just two goals across all competitions for the Red Devils.
He had another frustrating outing at Newcastle United last weekend where he was pretty much a spectator in key stages and was reluctant to track back.
When pressed on the negative reaction towards Rashford after Saturday’s defeat, Ten Hag refused to speak on the same but said that the team is disappointed.
The Dutch tactician emphasised that the players are unhappy with recent results and the performance was not good enough at St James’ Park to get the win.
He told Manutd.com: “Everyone is disappointed when you have the result at Galatasaray and then the performance and result in Newcastle, but if you go to Newcastle we are not the only team who is losing there.”
“I think in their home record, they win every game apart from Liverpool, when they were leading and the opponent was down to 10 and they got a turnaround.
“Apart from that, everyone is losing there but we wanted to win there. We gave everything that was in our power but definitely our performance wasn’t good enough.”
Rashford needs to find his scoring touch soon
The 26-year-old was sensational for United during the 2022/23 campaign with 30 goals from 56 appearances. He was rewarded with a big contract as a result.
However, he has struggled to replicate the same level of performances this season. A tally of two goals from 18 games is not good enough for a player of his calibre.
Ten Hag has publicly spoken in favour of him amidst the poor scoring form and in our opinion, Rashford needs to repay the manager’s faith sooner rather than later.
Chelsea are one of his favourite opponents with six goals and three assists in 17 meetings. He has an ideal opportunity to answer his critics tomorrow with a strong showing.
Rashford has been playing in an unfamiliar right-wing role and looks likely to continue in the same position with Alejandro Garnacho’s bright form from the left flank.
