Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is open to handing permanent deals to Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst if they impress, according to ESPN.
The Red Devils signed Sabitzer, Weghorst and Jack Butland on six-month loan deals in January.
Weghorst has already played a dominant role for United up front. The Dutchman has featured seven times for the club while scoring on one occasion.
Sabitzer, on the other hand, has made just two appearances since his deadline day move. He recently made his full Red Devils debut against Leeds United.
It is now reported by ESPN that Ten Hag would be willing to keep Sabitzer and Weghorst permanently if they make a good impression in the coming months.
Sabitzer and Weghorst handed incentive by Ten Hag
Weghorst joined United on the back of an impressive World Cup with the Netherlands. He scored two vital goals against Argentina in the quarter-final loss.
The 30-year-old has yet to find his feet since his move to Old Trafford but has plenty of time to redeem himself. He should get plenty of opportunities due to Anthony Martial’s injury record.
Meanwhile, Sabitzer has played just over 90 minutes since his move from Bayern. He showed glimpses of his quality against Leeds in midweek and nearly scored with a shot from outside the box.
With Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek out with long-term injuries, Sabitzer has the platform to showcase his skills in the coming months to earn himself a permanent transfer.
At Bayern, he was largely a fringe player with just 2,000 minutes played over 18 months. If Sabitzer can get back to his creative best, Ten Hag could be persuaded to keep him for the long-term.
Weghorst and Sabitzer are currently valued at a combined €34 million by Transfermarkt. United may have to pay a similar fee to sign the international duo on a permanent basis.
