Erik ten Hag must drop Casemiro after another poor outing vs Bournemouth

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag must consider dropping Casemiro from the starting line-up after another underwhelming display against Bournemouth on the road.

The Red Devils went winless for the fourth straight game following a 2-2 Premier League draw at the Vitality Stadium. Bruno Fernandes scored in either half for United.

It was a tough outing for the rest of the squad. Casemiro was particularly unconvincing as he struggled to provide any sort of control from the defensive midfield position.

The €30 million-rated star was guilty of losing possession on 19 occasions, completing just two out of seven long balls. He had a passing accuracy of 82 per cent and was dribbled past twice.

In comparison, Kobbie Mainoo completed 92 per cent of his passes, losing possession seven times.

The club graduate has been operating from a central midfield role in recent games, but he has still had to work hard defensively with Casemiro’s tendency to lose the ball.

In our view, Ten Hag should consider dropping Casemiro from his starting line-up when United face Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley next weekend.

We feel Mainoo should revert to the number six role where he was hugely impressive when Casemiro was injured. Mason Mount should partner the wonderkid in midfield.

United are currently 10 points adrift of the top four with just six games to play. It looks quite clear that they won’t be playing Champions League football next season.

They still have the chance to end the campaign on a high note. The FA Cup offers the opportunity to win silverware but United can’t underestimate their opposition.

The Red Devils will be firm favourites against the Sky Blues, but can’t afford to be vulnerable defensively as the Championship outfit could play on the counter-attack.
