Erik ten Hag has to drop Man Utd ace after dismal performance vs Tottenham

Manchester United suffered their third defeat of the Premier League season against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The club were second-best from the first whistle at Old Trafford and conceded after just three minutes on the clock.

Micky van de Ven made a stunning lung-bursting run into the United box before putting the ball on a plate for Brennan Johnson to tap home from six yards out.

Bruno Fernandes received his marching orders for a rash tackle on James Maddison before the break, which made things easier for Tottenham.

Spurs ended up with a convincing 3-0 win, and the margin of victory could have been wider. Andre Onana was superb in goal for United with seven saves in the game.

Fernandes let the team down with his sending-off, but Dalot was the worst player on the pitch and looked out of sorts during the opening half.

The Portuguese bizarrely stopped tracking Johnson’s run, which allowed him to open the scoring with a simple tap-in.

Dalot was also guilty of losing possession with several misplaced passes and United were very fortunate to go into the break with a 1-0 deficit.

He has looked uncomfortable at left-back this term and yesterday’s performance is evidence that manager Erik ten Hag should ponder a change.

The 25-year-old lost possession on 14 occasions with a passing accuracy of 74 percent.

With Noussair Mazraoui shining at right-back, it makes sense to drop Dalot to the bench. Journalist Samuel Luckhurst gave him a 3/10 rating for his dismal showing.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are injured at the moment and the best alternative would be to play Martinez at left-back with a new partner for Matthijs de Ligt.

Martinez should be much more comfortable in the role as he is predominantly left-footed.

This would pave the way for either Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof to accompany de Ligt in central defence.

The manager should make the change against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night.
