Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has spoken to Girona winger Viktor Tsygankov over a potential transfer, according to Spanish publication AS.
The Red Devils recently signed Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee. They are expected to formally confirm his arrival this week.
The club are reportedly searching for a new wide player, and they have entered the race alongside Aston Villa to sign Tsygankov.
Ten Hag has already spoken to the 26-year-old and has stated that he wants him in his squad.
The winger’s contract currently has a £26 million release clause. United aim to agree terms with him so they can negotiate with Girona.
Tsygankov could add creativity on the right wing
The Ukraine international is a specialist right-winger. He was brilliant for Girona in La Liga last season, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in 30 games.
The forward’s campaign was disrupted by four short-term injuries, but this did not hamper his performances when he returned. He was one of Girona’s standout stars.
United could swoop for him if Jadon Sancho leaves the club.
They have already agreed a deal with Marseille to sell Mason Greenwood. Sancho could be the next in line to leave despite sorting out his differences with Ten Hag.
The 24-year-old has failed to live up to expectations at United. With Juventus interested in him, United could eventually accept a reduced price for a summer exit.
This could pave the way for the arrival of Tsygankov, who would be a bargain signing.
Aside from his goal involvements, the winger is a good distributor. He created 12 big chances for Girona, who qualified for the Champions League against the odds last term.
United may have to act quickly to sign him, particularly with interest from Villa. The Midlands outfit are in the Champions League and have shown plenty of transfer ambition.
