Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided positive injury news ahead of the FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool next weekend.
The Red Devils returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-0 league victory over Everton. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scored from the penalty spot.
Speaking after the result at Old Trafford, Ten Hag said that he could have as many as three players back in the matchday squad to face the Reds next weekend.
The manager revealed that Aaron Wan-Bissaka was already training in the lead-up to the Everton game and he also expects Harry Maguire to return to the squad.
The Dutch tactician added that Rasmus Hojlund will be available for the North-West derby too.
He was quoted as saying by Manutd.com: “Aaron Wan-Bissaka was, yesterday, on the pitch. We expect also Harry Maguire back in the squad next week. Rasmus Hojlund has good hope he will make it as well.”
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been on the sidelines since the New Year with a hamstring injury and he is unlikely to be rushed back in a high intensity Cup tie.
Harry Maguire has a better chance of making the starting line-up, but the manager could stick with the pairing of Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans in central defence.
Evans has been fantastic in his last two league starts for the club. The veteran has impressed with his ball control and could get the nod over Maguire in the derby.
However, Rasmus Hojlund could be drafted straight into the XI. The Dane was in scintillating form before his muscle injury with seven goals in just six league games.
His absence has been felt with United scoring just three goals from open play in the last four outings.
United came on top against the Toffees yesterday, but they lacked the cutting edge in the final third. They could have easily won the game by more than two goals.
Hojlund’s pace, link-up play and physical presence up front could be key to beating Liverpool. A victory would provide huge momentum for the season run-in.
