Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed a triple selection boost ahead of the Premier League opener against Fulham on Friday evening.
The Red Devils start their top-flight campaign against the Cottagers at Old Trafford. Ahead of the curtain-raiser, Ten Hag has confirmed that Harry Maguire is fit to play again.
The England international picked up a fresh knock during the Community Shield defeat versus Manchester City, but he has managed to make a quick recovery.
Alongside him, the Dutch tactician revealed that summer signings Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui will be in the squad after arriving from Bayern Munich this week.
He told reporters: “They [De Ligt and Mazraoui] will be in the squad. And Harry Maguire will be in the squad as well.”
United had a mixed pre-season campaign which was followed by a penalty shoot-out defeat to Pep Guardiola’s side in the Community Shield last weekend.
The fans will hope that the Red Devils can start the new season in the best possible fashion. A victory over the Cottagers on Friday can put up a strong statement.
It won’t be straightforward. Marco Silva’s team secured a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford in February while a late Bruno Fernandes goal proved the difference at Craven Cottage.
United need to start quickly off the blocks tomorrow. An early goal would give them confidence and momentum to go on to secure a comfortable win at home.
Maguire looks likely to start in the heart of the defence, having returned to training. We won’t be surprised if one of De Ligt and Mazraoui make their full debuts.
With Luke Shaw injured, Diogo Dalot could move to left-back with Mazraoui starting on the right.
Alternatively, De Ligt could start alongside Maguire in central defence with Lisandro Martinez occupying the left-back position. The Argentine started there in the Community Shield.
