Erik ten Hag confirms double Man Utd injury boost ahead of Newcastle clash

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial could feature in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

The Red Devils went into the international break on a high with a 3-1 win over Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-final and they will be eyeing another victory at St James’ Park.

Ahead of the game, Ten Hag has provided a positive update on Rashford and Martial.

Rashford picked up a knock against Fulham which forced him to withdraw from the England squad. He is training with the team today and Ten Hag remains positive over his availability.

He told Manutd.com: “I have good hope. He trained but he had to do some treatment, he had to do some individual training and, today, he joined in the group.”

“I think we have one more day so I have good hope he’s available. I think so.”

Meanwhile, the manager was also optimistic over Martial’s return to the matchday squad. He has been training for a few weeks after a hip injury and could feature against the Magpies.

Ten Hag added: “He’s training, so for two weeks now, I think he can be in [vs Newcastle].”

United handed double injury boost for Newcastle trip

Rashford has been a vital figure for United in attack this season. He has registered a stunning tally of 27 goals and nine assists from 44 appearances in all competitions.

The 25-year-old will be raring to go after the international break and we won’t be surprised if he is involved in the starting line-up against the Magpies on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag may want to handle Martial with extra caution. The Frenchman has suffered five separate injuries during the course of the current campaign.

He has still bagged six goals and two assists from 723 minutes and will have a big role to play in the coming months with Wout Weghorst misfiring in front of goal.
