Erik ten Hag confirms double injury boost vs Liverpool but two Man Utd stars ruled out

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided a mixed injury update ahead of the Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils have suffered back-to-back losses to Bournemouth and Bayern Munich in all competitions and they now face a tough assignment against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

United have not won at Anfield in the previous eight meetings with three draws and five defeats and they face a huge challenge to beat their arch-rivals this weekend.

Ahead of the game, Ten Hag has provided an update on four key players. The manager said that Harry Maguire will miss the coming games following a groin injury in midweek.

Alongside the former captain, Anthony Martial won’t be available due to illness.

The Dutchman added to provide good news with Luke Shaw available after a minor hamstring injury scare. Marcus Rashford has also recovered in time from his illness.

He told Manutd.com: “Harry [Maguire], he will not be available for the coming games. But we don’t think it is for the long term. Luke Shaw, he trained this morning. So we think he is available for Sunday. Marcus Rashford. He will [be back, but] Martial not.”

United are currently sixth in the league standings with 27 points, six adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City. They can ill-afford to see the gap extend with another negative result this weekend.

However, the club face a daunting task on their hands to beat Liverpool, considering they are winless in the league at Anfield since January 2016. The club have scored once in the last eight visits.

Ten Hag’s side will be without Bruno Fernandes through suspension which is another setback. The likes of Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony will need to turn up in the final third.
