Erik ten Hag confirms double injury boost for Everton clash, Hojlund doubtful, Evans out

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed the availability of goalkeeper Andre Onana and left-back Luke Shaw ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash at Everton.

The Red Devils won back-to-back league games before the international break and Ten Hag will be hoping that his players can extend the streak at Goodison Park.

Ahead of the game, the Dutch tactician has confirmed that Onana is fine after his pelvic injury on international duty and he has trained with the rest of the group.

Ten Hag added that Shaw is also available after a lengthy absence with a muscle injury but Hojlund is doubtful. The club will make a final decision over him tomorrow.

Jonny Evans, however, will not make the game. The fixture will come too soon for him.

He told Manutd.com: “[Andre] Onana is OK, he has trained. Shaw will be available for Sunday, he will be in the squad.”

“Rasmus [Hojlund] is a close finish. He’s training outside and making very good steps. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to make a final decision.

“Jonny [Evans] is on the way back, he’s not ready for Everton, he will not take long.”

United handed timely boost ahead of Merseyside trip

Onana’s injury was a cause for concern for the Red Devils, considering he has played every minute in goal since his arrival from Inter Milan last summer.

Altay Bayindir is a quality deputy in the squad, but it is always a risk to field a goalkeeper, who has yet to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League.

Onana’s return is a huge boost for the club. Shaw’s availability is another big plus. The Englishman should be drafted straight into the starting line-up.

In our opinion, Shaw could start at left centre-back instead of the left-back position where he would have plenty of running and tracking back to do.

With his injury record, Ten Hag may want to handle him with extra caution. Sergio Reguilon or Diogo Dalot could start on the left side of the defence.

Meanwhile, Hojlund should not be risked unless he is completely fit. The club have a must-win Champions League game at Galatasaray next week.
