Erik ten Hag confirms Alejandro Garnacho will return to full training ahead of Aston Villa clash

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho will return to team training ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

The Red Devils recently played out a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on the road. They held a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break but squandered the advantage.

Ten Hag will be eyeing a better response against Villa on Sunday and ahead of the game, he has confirmed that Garnacho will be involved in full training again.

The club graduate has been out of action for six weeks with an ankle injury but he could make the squad when Unai Emery’s side visit Old Trafford this weekend.

He told Manutd.com: “Yes [he is closer to being back].”

“He will return tomorrow [Friday] in the team training part and then we have to see when he can return totally in the team training and then back into games.”

Meanwhile, the Red Devils boss confirmed that the 18-year-old won’t be released in late May to participate in the Under-20 World Cup with Argentina.

He added: “No, we don’t release him.”

Garnacho’s return is a big boost for Man Utd

Garnacho has had a fantastic breakthrough season with United. In just 1,000 minutes, the 18-year-old has registered four goals and five assists in all competitions.

The majority of his contributions have come in winning situations. His last gasp winner at Fulham and assist in the Manchester derby are probably his best moments.

Garnacho has now put pen-to-paper on a new long-term deal and this could bring the best out of him. He should play with more freedom after sorting out his future.

Hopefully, the €25 million-rated star is available from the upcoming clash against Villa. Garnacho may not start after a long lay-off but he could be a potential gamechanger off the bench.
