End of an era: Michael Carrick reveals Casemiro has already played his final Man United game

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that Casemiro has already played his last game for the club.

The Red Devils will conclude their 2025-26 campaign by facing Brighton & Hove Albion on the road.

United head into the fixture with little pressure after officially securing a third-place finish thanks to their dramatic 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Casemiro received a deeply emotional farewell from the Old Trafford crowd and was given the opportunity to say goodbye to the supporters one final time.

Carrick has now confirmed during his pre-match press conference that the Brazilian midfielder will not feature against Brighton.

He said: “First of all on Casemiro, I was kind of decided that last week would be his last game.

“So, I think that went as well as we all could have hoped, to be honest.

“He’s been fantastic and I’ve said a lot of things about Case, how well he’s done for me since I’ve been here and for the whole club. It was decided it would be a good time for him to finish really.

“It just felt the right time I think, for Case, it was decided and he was part of that as well.”

Casemiro moved to Old Trafford from Real Madrid for an initial fee of £60 million in 2022.

He enjoyed a solid debut campaign at Manchester but a serious dip in form allowed pundits to criticise him heavily over the next 24 months.

At one stage, he even lost his place in the side to emerging youngster Toby Collyer.

However, Casemiro fought his way back into the starting XI after producing outstanding performances in training.

The veteran midfielder has since responded with a magnificent 2025-26 campaign, dominating games in midfield while also scoring nine league goals.

There was even a realistic chance for Casemiro to reach the 10-goal mark for the very first time in his career, but it now appears that milestone will never arrive in a United shirt.
