Emiliano Martinez has ‘everything ready’ to swap Aston Villa for Man Utd this summer

Manchester United have had a quiet summer transfer window thus far.

The Red Devils were anticipated to make several signings on the back of finishing 15th in the Premier League last season.

However, they have confirmed only one major arrival in Matheus Cunha.

Talks are advancing for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo with a third bid, and United remain optimistic of securing his transfer.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has likewise been linked, and Clarin (page 44) have today provided a big update.

The Argentine outlet claim that the 32-year-old has ‘everything ready’ to swap Villa for the Red Devils.

There is a £21.6 million release clause in his contract, but United are willing to pay more to discuss a long-term payment plan.

Martinez, described as ‘world-class‘ by iNews, is on the ‘verge’ of joining the Red Devils, as per Clarin.

Martinez move may not materialise after Onana injury boost

Earlier this summer, journalist Fabrizio Romano clarified that Martinez would like to join United, but a deal would depend on Andre Onana heading for the exit door.

The scenario recently changed with Onana picking up a hamstring injury. It was reported that the Cameroon international could be out for up to eight weeks.

That situation has again changed with fresh reports claiming that Onana’s injury is not as bad as initially feared. He could be fit to face Everton in the US pre-season tour.

The former Inter Milan star is winning the race to be fit for the Premier League curtain-raiser against Arsenal. This could directly hamper Martinez’s dream of joining the Red Devils.

Onana has not received any offers from Saudi Arabia despite interest earlier this year. With him fit and staying, Martinez is unlikely to join United ahead of next season.
