€42m target to snub Manchester United and join Bayern Munich next year

Manchester United target Dayot Upamecano is rumoured to join Bayern Munich next season.

The French Defender agreed to sign a contract extension at RB Leipzig earlier this year with a €42m release clause.

Upamecano’s outstanding form at the heart of Leipzig’s defence helped the German side reach Champions League semi-finals this season.

Major interests from clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Barcelona emerged for Upamecano. However, Bayern Munich has agreed on a deal to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano. In April, German publication Bild reported the same news.

This gives the Bavarians an enormous amount of leverage in negotiations. €42m for a 21-year-old center-back could prove to be a highway robbery. Winning the Champions League this season could lure Upamecano to switch sides next year.

Manchester United have missed out on a defender who has the potential to become a world-class player soon. This follows a pattern of United missing out on good transfers due to innumerable reasons.

The club has lost out on the race to sign Erling Haaland, Gabriel, Jude Bellingham and numerous other players in the Solskjaer era. The manager is looking to add reinforcements before the new season begins, but this situation of losing out on good players doesn’t bode well for the Red Devils.
