Manchester United legend Phil Neville recently said that United shouldn’t sign Jack Grealish this summer.
“People talk about Grealish, now with Bruno Fernandes in there do we need another number ten? I think the right-hand side is the biggest area where we need to improve. We need an out and out right-sided winger. That’s the one big hole in the squad.”
Everyone agrees United should sign a right winger that is Jadon Sancho. However, United lack creativity in the middle when Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba are not playing.
The second leg against LASK showed that. Juan Mata, Andreas Periera and Jesse Lingard were assigned the creative roles in the Europa League Round of 16 but they failed to capitalize. United looked lazy and there was no sign of uniqueness, especially in Lingard and Pereira.
Mata grabbed two assists but had a terrible game apart from that. United were in urgent need of fresh air without Pogba and Fernandes.
Pogba and Fernandes cannot start every game. United are going to play Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup next season with two games in a week. in cup competitions, the likes of Mata, Lingard and Pereira is not enough.
That is why a creative attacking midfielder is required at Old Trafford. Aston Villa’s asking price for Grealish have increased after surviving their relegation battle.
While Grealish suits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking style, it is understandable if United cannot fund the massive amounts for both Sancho and Grealish. However, denying United don’t need a midfielder is ridiculous.
