Barcelona are reportedly keen to sign Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood who is currently out on loan at Getafe.
According to The Sun, the Spanish giants are planning to make a £40 million bid for the forward in the summer.
It is said the Catalans are also ready to offer him Lionel Messi’s iconic No.10 shirt to lure him to the Camp Nou.
Messi left the La Liga giants in August 2021 and his legendary jersey was given to Ansu Fati. But the shirt is currently vacant, with Fati joining Brighton & Hove Albion last summer.
Getafe are also said to be very keen to make his move permanent after his impressive start to life at the Estadio Coliseum.
He has scored three goals and contributed four assists in 14 top-flight matches this campaign.
The 22-year-old has played an important role in helping Jose Bordalas’ side to climb to eighth in the table.
No future at Manchester United
United suspended Greenwood in January 2022 after allegations of rape and sexual assault.
All criminal charges against him were later dropped and the club were planning to reintegrate the player into the first team. But the Red Devils made a U-turn on the decision after a major backlash from supporters.
Greenwood subsequently joined Getafe where he is now reviving his club career.
Considering what happened, it looks very unlikely that United will recall the talented forward despite his contract expiring in 2025.
However, he could become a very successful player in the Spanish league by either joining Barcelona or signing a permanent deal with Getafe.
