Diogo Dalot in top form as Man Utd beat Southampton

Diogo Dalot produced a superb performance for Manchester United earlier today as they secured a 1-0 Premier League win over Southampton on the road.

The Red Devils registered their first points of the campaign on Monday night with a stunning 2-1 win over Liverpool. They continued the good form with another victory at St Mary’s.

It was far from a vintage showing from the Red Devils, who lacked the cutting edge in the box, but they eventually secured three points with a superbly taken goal from Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes scored in the 55th minute with a terrific low volley, but the chance was created by Dalot, who came up with a peach of a cross from the right flank for his compatriot.

Aside from his assist, the 23-year-old also produced a solid defensive performance. He registered four tackles and two interceptions while winning seven ground and aerial duels.

The former Porto man also came up with two key passes and two crosses. Right at the end, he made a sublime clearance off the line to ensure United were on the winning side.

Dalot has been manager Erik ten Hag’s preferred right-back from the start of the season, and the Portuguese certainly repaid the faith today with a match-winning assist.

With the talk of United eyeing a new right-back, his latest display should keep him in good stead going forward. He will still need to find consistency to cement the position.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils ended a horrific seven-match away losing league streak today, and Ten Hag will be hoping that his team can now push on with a long winning run.

United will be in action against Leicester City on Thursday next. They will be aiming for another solid away performance. Hopefully, the players can fully capitalise on their chances.
