Diogo Dalot impresses in Man Utd’s Premier League defeat at Arsenal

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot produced a credible display during the club’s 3-1 Premier League defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

The Red Devils squandered the chance to boost their Champions League hopes, but it was a much better showing from the Liverpool defeat.

There were a few appreciable performances from the Emirates Stadium. Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea were excellent on either side of the field. Diogo Dalot likewise had a good outing.

The Portuguese made an error early on by playing Eddie Nketiah onside, but fortunately the striker’s shot was saved by De Gea. The 23-year-old thereafter produced a solid display for the club.

Dalot hit the woodwork in both halves for the Red Devils. The second effort of his required an excellent fingertip save from goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale onto the near post.

The right-back also played Nketiah offside for his goal in the opening half. However, it was to no avail as the Gunners were awarded a penalty for Alex Telles’ foul on Bukayo Saka prior to that incident.

Dalot played the entire 90 minutes for United, completing 88 per cent of his passes. He won five duels and three tackles in the process and was unlucky to not find the back of the net at the Emirates.

He should be assured his spot at right-back for the rest of the campaign. If he can start making goal contributions, it could go a long way to potentially sealing a starting berth under Erik ten Hag next term.
