Diogo Dalot dominated proceedings vs Jeremy Doku in Manchester derby

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot had an impressive outing during the 3-1 Premier League defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Red Devils went into the Manchester derby as underdogs. Marcus Rashford’s stellar long-range strike in the eighth minute silenced the home fans.

United went into the break with a deserved 1-0 lead, but could not hold onto their advantage after the break.

A splendid Phil Foden brace and a late Erling Haaland goal sealed the victory for the Cityzens.

Rashford won plenty of praise for his stunning opening goal, but they were also positives at the back with Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans standing out.

There was much talk about how Dalot would handle the pace and dribbling of Jeremy Doku, but the Portuguese came out with flying colours against the Belgian.

Dalot won nine duels alongside 100 per cent of his tackles (3/3). He also won 100 per cent of his dribbles (3/3) alongside three clearances. He blocked two shots on goal.

Doku, on the other hand, had just one shot on target, winning three duels. Dalot definitely nullified the threat of the £55 million signing, who was substituted in the 59th minute.

The Portuguese was switched to left-back for the final 29 minutes as part of a tactical change from manager Erik ten Hag which coincided with United’s downfall.

With Evans injured, Victor Lindelof was asked to partner Varane in central defence. Dalot moved into the left-back role with Willy Kambwala being introduced at right-back.

Foden capitalised on the situation to secure the lead in the 80th minute. A lovely bit of interchange with Julian Alvarez saw him exploit the space in the defence to score.
