Manchester United favourite Dimitar Berbatov has backed his former club to beat Manchester City in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils go into the game on the back of a nine-match unbeaten run where they have scored 22 goals and conceded just two times in the process.
Of course, they have a tougher assignment with the Cityzens this weekend but Berbatov believes the club are in good position to beat their rivals for the third occasion this term.
“United are in great form at the moment and it is the perfect time for them to face City. The Premier League is done for Guardiola and their main focus now is the Champions League,” he told Metro.
“Manchester United have to take advantage of that, and I think they will, it will be a great win for them and such a valuable three points in the race for top four.”
Despite the unbeaten run, United have been inconsistent with their displays in the Premier League and they have won just two of their four matches over the past month.
There have been positives with both Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo making a mark after their January arrivals and the duo could have a key role to play in the derby.
Fernandes has obviously improved the creativity in the final third with his incisive movement and passing but he will need the assistance from the forwards on Sunday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have the temptation to start both Anthony Martial and Ighalo upfront after the latter scored a brace during the club’s recent 3-0 win over Derby County in the FA Cup fifth round.
Manchester United are currently sixth on the league table with 42 points. They could potentially jump into the top four by beating the Cityzens at Old Trafford for the first time since 2016.
