Louis Van Gaal has admitted he “does not know” where Angel Di Maria is and has refused to get drawn on speculations that the Argentine winger could be heading to PSG this summer.
Speaking after United’s 2-0 defeat in a friendly against the Ligue 1 champions, the Dutchman said he was not aware of any deal to bring the club’s record signing to the French capital, even though PSG’s manager Laurent Blanc claimed an agreement was “close”.
“I don’t know, because I’m not the same manager as Laurent Blanc, I don’t want to answer these questions,” said van Gaal.
“With Manchester United we shall announce something when it is already done and not when it isn’t done, because it’s a process.
“I have said that many times. We will have to wait and see and I don’t want to interfere [in the situation].”
Di Maria did not join up with the United squad in San Jose for the last leg of their US tour, after he was given an extended break following his involvement in the Copa America with Argentina.
However, when asked about the circumstances surrounding the former Real Madrid man, Van Gaal replied: “You can ask that every week.”
With United seemingly poised to make a move for Barcelona forward Pedro, Di Maria’s future at the club appears in jeopardy but, with PSG’s opening offer understood to be around the £28m mark, negotiations could drag on well after the start of the season.
