Memphis Depay has revealed that Bayern Munich were interested in signing him but that Louis Van Gaal convinced him to join Manchester United.
The Dutchman, United’s first signing of the summer, attracted interest from a number of clubs, including Liverpool and Bayern, but decided to move to Old Trafford in a £25m deal once he had spoken with the former Holland manager.
“There were discussions with nearly all the top clubs,” Depay told German newspaper Sport Bild.
“Bayern were one of them but, in the end, Manchester United came out on top.
“There are definitely a lot of good and well-known managers and Pep Guardiola is certainly one of them.
“But I only spoke to Louis van Gaal and he totally convinced me.
“He gave me the feeling that I was very important for him not only as a player but also as a person – and then it was clear that I would go to Manchester United.”
