Manchester United midfielder Casemiro knows that defending and providing balance to the team is his priority.
Casemiro scored an incredible stoppage-time goal against Chelsea, helping his side to earn a much-deserved point.
Talking to ManUtd.com, the Brazilian midfielder stated that scoring goals is not his main task.
He said: “I think the goals have to come naturally. Everybody knows my work. My role is defensive – to help my teammates and bring the ball out from the back with quality.
“I defend, first of all, and provide balance to the team. I help my teammates with defensive work – bring the ball out with quality. That is my job.
“Of course, a goal here or there is nice, but doing my job and defending well comes first.”
Casemiro has been exceptional since getting the nod to start ahead of Scott McTominay.
He is winning duels, making tackles and interceptions and winning back the ball possession in the centre of the park.
What more can Erik ten Hag demand from his holding midfielder?
United have been missing a player like him for a few years now. The team finally has someone who can sit in front of the defenders and guard the midfield.
His recent eye-catching performances have made him an undisputed starter under the manager.
He came close to getting his name on the score sheet against Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur but finally scored his maiden goal against Chelsea.
His passion was there for all to see afterwards.
Ten Hag eased his £70million summer signing into English football, and he is now reaping the rewards.
Hopefully, Casemiro can continue performing like this as he allows the players around him to flourish.
