Dean Henderson has told confidants he would never return to Manchester United

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson has told confidants he would never return to Manchester United, according to the Sun.

The 28-year-old graduated from the Red Devils academy but played 13 times for them in the Premier League before leaving for the Eagles in August 2023.

Former Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pledged back in the 2021 pre-season to install Henderson as the first-choice heading into the campaign.

However, he did not make any league appearances in 2021-22, leaving for Nottingham Forest on loan the following season.

While Man United have struggled in goal since then, Henderson has thrived, winning the FA Cup and FA Community Shield with Palace.

The Red Devils signed Belgian goalie Senne Lammens on summer transfer deadline day and have allowed Andre Onana to join Trabzonspor on loan.

However, they are prioritising signing a new number 1 goalkeeper next year as Lammens is seen as one for the future.

While it is unknown if Henderson could be targeted, AC Milan star Mike Maignan is on their radar.

The Frenchman will become a free agent at the end of the season and is a quality goalie, but Man United will face competition from Chelsea and several suitors for his services.

Maignan has the quality to play for Man United but he does not have the much-needed Premier League experience, which counted against Onana despite his heroics in Inter Milan.

Henderson could be a perfect option but it does not appear either party is open to doing a deal, and the decision-makers at the Old Trafford club could be left ruing selling him given how things have gone since then.

They have since brought in Lammens but Altay Bayindir has been in goal since his arrival and he needs to prove to head coach Ruben Amorim that he deserves to be in goal instead.
