Ander Herrera has heaped praise on David De Gea, describing his teammate as a “genius” and reiterating he was very happy to see him staying at Old Trafford last summer.
De Gea looked set to leave Manchester United before transfer deadline day, only for his proposed move to Real Madrid to collapse at the eleventh hour, leading to a heated confrontation between the two clubs, who blamed each other for the failure to reach an agreement.
However, Real Madrid’s loss has definitely been United’s gain, as De Gea has since signed a new multi-year deal and has shown the kind of form that has made him arguably the best goalkeeper in the world over the last two seasons.
“He’s a genius. Purely on talent, I’ve never seen someone like him and we are lucky to have him,” Herrera said of his teammate.
“The talent he has, very few have it in the world and David is one of them. It’s a blessing to have him close, and hopefully it will be for a long time.”
