David De Gea says he’s been playing the best football of his career and he’s adamant he will take his sparkling form for Spain back with him to England.
The Spaniard was superb on Monday night, helping his side to clinch a 1-0 win in Ukraine with a number of spectacular saves – he stopped 11 of Ukraine’s shots – that frustrated the hosts as the defending European champions ended their qualifying campaign on a high.
United face Everton away on Saturday, before travelling to Moscow in the Champions League next week and hosting City at Old Trafford a couple of days later and De Gea knows how crucial the next two weeks could prove to be for his side.
“I have to compete to the max,” he said.
“It’s true that I had a bit of luck today, but I did well and I’ve got to keep it up.
“I’m in the best form of my career. I think it was a great team performance.
“It’s a very testing place to come to and we were up against really tough opponents who needed to win.”
