De Gea dismisses “lies” about his future

David-De-Gea_3258445David De Gea has dismissed rumours of problems between him and Louis Van Gaal as “complete lies”, insisting he’s really happy at Manchester United.

The Spaniard has been United’s player of the season so far with his performances attracting attention from Real Madrid, while speculations on his future have abounded.

With De Gea’s contract expiring in 2016 and the Spaniard yet to commit to a new deal, reports claiming he had not spoken to Van Gaal for months emerged in Spain this week, but the United number one was quick to dismiss them.

“Everything that has been written in the press about us not getting on is a lie,” he said.

“We both want the best for the club and the team, and the stories are complete lies.”

United are looking to extend the 24-year-old’s contract beyond the end of next season and were this week given a boost in their quest to keep De Gea at Old Trafford, as Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti declared himself happy with the current goalkeeping options at his disposal.

If that was a positive news for United’s board, De Gea’s assertion that he’s extremely happy at Old Trafford will only add to their hopes of ensuring the former Atletico Madrid man remains at the club.

“I think this is the best period of my career,” said De Gea.

“I am playing the best football that I’ve ever played. I’m really enjoying it at the moment and I’m just trying to improve with every training session and every game that goes by, giving 100% and concentrating to the maximum.

“That’s the way I want to continue.”
