United have made a topsy-turvy start to their Premier League campaign. Having amassed 13 points from eight games, the Red Devils currently stand 10th on the league table.
United failed to land their #1 target Jadon Sancho and a new center-back in the summer. If the results keep dwindling, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might want to bring in some new faces in January.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed how Manchester United could pursue the upcoming January transfer window.
Speaking on Ask Ornstein, the journalist claims that a move for a winger seems unlikely in the upcoming January.
United signed Amad Diallo Traore on the deadline day of the summer transfer window. He’ll join his teammates at Carrington in January.
Ornstein believes that Traore could diminish the chances of United going for another right-sided winger.
Furthermore, Odion Ighalo is set to return to his parent club Shanghai Greenland Shenhua as his loan deal expires in January.
Despite that, Ornstein suggests that United won’t sign a new striker as the Reds already have Edinson Cavani under their ranks.
Jesse Lingard, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Juan Mata are ringing alarm bells at Old Trafford as their contract ends next summer. But, United have an option to extend Lingard and Mata’s stay by another year.
As per Ornstein, United would love to trigger the one-year extensions for Lingard and Mata to protect their market value. On the other hand, the club would reportedly consider the Dutchman’s future at the club before offering a renewal.
The English journalist opines United will ‘escalate or bring forward’ their plans for 2021 summer transfer window to this upcoming January ‘if the need meets opportunity and availability’.
