The situation regarding Sergio Romero’s position at Manchester United ‘remains in limbo’, as reported by David Ornstein.
Reports from The Athletic has claimed that Sergio Romero was furious after his apparent move to Everton was blocked by the club on the deadline day of the latest summer transfer window.
In order to secure the services of the Argentine veteran on a season-long loan deal, Everton believingly submitted a bid of £2 plus the guarantee to cover his entire salary.
Manchester United, on the other hand, rejected it, having already made up their mind to offload the out-of-favour goalkeeper on a permanent basis.
Manchester United pay Romero a weekly wage of around £100k and are interested in racking up a fee of £8m from a permanent sale.
Despite performing well in the cup ties, Romero was the first to get excluded from United’s the starting line-up in their semi-final ties against Chelsea in FA Cup and Sevilla in the Europa League.
After the Everton deal collapsed, Sergio Romero’s wife, Eliana Guercio, went on to take a dig at the club, stating:
“Sergio Romero worked hard for his club.
“Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him [the Europa League in 2017].
“He helped the team reach four finals/semi-finals and then he was left on the bench only to lose them all.
“It is time for them to return the opportunity and let him go. RESPECT FOR ONCE!!!!”
Signed from Sampdoria in 2015, Romero might seek a move to American Major League Soccer, where the transfer window is set to remain open until October 29.
It has been reported that a number of MLS clubs are in the race to acquire his signature and pay a serious sum of money.
