Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea signed a contract extension on a reduced salary only for the club to back out of the agreed proposal, The Athletic report.
The Spaniard has been the mainstay in United’s goal for the past 12 seasons, but there is currently uncertainty over his future with his contract expiring on June 30.
It is now revealed that the 32-year-old agreed a drastic reduction on his £375,000 per week wages, but the Red Devils did not sign the contract.
De Gea has since received a fresh proposal with an even lower salary. He has refused to accept the latest offer and is considering his options.
The Athletic report that discussions are ongoing between the player and the club, but there is currently interest in him from Saudi Arabia.
De Gea could be heading for the exit door
In recent weeks, it has been reported that the Spaniard has no desire to accept a significant reduction on his weekly wages at Old Trafford.
However, the story appears to be quite different. The ‘magnificent‘ star agreed a huge pay-cut to renew, but United changed their plans.
This is a sign of disrespect towards the Spaniard, in our opinion. It is unsurprising that De Gea has refused to lower his salary further.
Discussions are ongoing with De Gea, but with just three days left on his contract, it seems likely that he could leave as a free agent.
De Gea could receive a significant salary boost with a move to the Middle East. United already seem to be eyeing a new number one.
Talks are underway with the agent of Inter Milan star Andre Onana. He could be available for a fee of £41 million plus add-ons.
