David de Gea provides an update on his Manchester United future

Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea has expressed the pleasure of playing for Manchester United and is hopeful of staying put with the club for many years to come.

The 29-year-old’s future was regularly questioned earlier last year and the club eventually ended the speculation by handing him a four-year deal in September with the option for another 12 months.

De Gea has since made a couple of goalkeeping blunders against the likes of Watford and Everton but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has continued to support him by highlighting the positive moments.

In a recent club interview, De Gea admitted that it’s like a dream, having nearly finished a decade with the club since his move from Atletico Madrid as a teenager, he told via Sky Sports:

“Just to be a part of this club is amazing. So imagine, 10 years, it’s like a dream. It’s great to play games with this club, so I hope I can be here more years, many years.”

De Gea is no doubt one of the world’s best goalkeepers on his day but over the past 18 months, he has made the occasional error between the sticks, which have cost the club in the form of points.

It was previously suggested that the delay in the contract talks may have hampered his performances but that is definitely not the case, considering the trend has continued following the renewal.

The Spaniard will surely remain with the club for the next few seasons, having signed the long-term deal but he will need to find the consistency in the goalkeeping displays.

Club graduate Dean Henderson has caught the eye with his impressive showing for Sheffield United on loan over the past 20 months and manager Chris Wilder has said that the 23-year-old’s future lies at Old Trafford.

As things stand, Henderson is unlikely to command the number one role ahead of De Gea and he could be loaned out to the Blades for the third-season running next term.
