David de Gea emerges as latest name on Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper shortlist

Former Manchester United star David de Gea has emerged as the latest name on Bayern Munich’s shortlist, according to BILD.

The Spanish goalkeeper ended his 12-year association with the Red Devils after his contract expired at the end of last month.

He recently turned down an approach from Inter Milan, and BILD claim that Bayern are now lining up a surprise move for him.

Manuel Neuer is currently continuing his rehabilitation from a broken leg, and he may not be fit for the start of the new campaign.

Yann Sommer provided cover for him in the second half of last season, but he has no plans of playing second fiddle next term.

The Swiss international is currently pushing for a move to Inter Milan.

As a result, Bayern could be left with Sven Ulreich between the sticks. The club are now eyeing an ambitious move for De Gea.

BILD state that it would be awesome if Bayern can strike an agreement with the United legend.

The hierarchy are planning to enquire with the player’s management whether he would be interested on a free transfer to the club.

De Gea should consider Bayern Munich move

The Spain international recently turned down a contract offer worth £4.3 million per year with Inter. He is eyeing £8.7m yearly from his next club.

Bayern are more than capable of meeting his wage demands, but the big question is whether De Gea would be tempted to move to Munich.

De Gea may have to drop to the bench at the Bavarian giants when Neuer returns to full fitness.

However, Neuer is already 37 and it may not be long before the German champions contemplate replacing him with a new number one.

If De Gea can make a good impression, there is a realistic possibility that Bayern could consider him as Neuer’s replacement for the short term.

It is left to be seen whether De Gea will accept the challenge or prefer to join another club where he has a guaranteed starting role throughout.

Not many clubs in European football can afford his current wage demands of £167,000 per week.
