David de Gea doubtful for PSG clash

Manchester United welcome Paris Saint-Germain to Old Trafford on Wednesday, needing to avoid defeat to qualify for the knockout stages of this season’s Champions League.

We kicked off the group little over a month ago with a 2-1 win away to the French champions. With two matches to go in the group stage we are three points ahead of both PSG and RB Leipzig.

Heading into the game though, David de Gea is a doubt following a knee injury picked up in the weekend’s 3-2 win at Southampton.

The goalkeeper collided with the post when attempting to save James Ward-Prowse’s free kick that gave the hosts a 2-0 first half lead. He was withdrawn after half-time, with Dean Henderson playing between the posts as we came from behind to win 3-2.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked for an update on our goalkeeper’s condition in his post-match interview, telling MUTV:

“A knock just above the knee, so hopefully he’ll be okay for Wednesday, but we don’t know.

“Let’s have a little scan or check tomorrow [Monday], but Dean came on and looked very assured.”

Bruno Fernandes scored our first goal before substitute Edinson Cavani scored a brace to give us a dramatic 3-2 victory at St Mary’s. The three points sees us up to 8th, two points outside of the Champions League places ahead of Monday’s action.

Dean Henderson had little work to do on his Premier League debut.

Prior to the game, Paul Pogba has been ruled out with an ankle injury. It’s possible the French midfielder is available midweek, though the performance of Donny van de Beek in his past two matches should make it difficult for the club’s most expensive player to get back into the starting lineup straight away.

We should find more news on the fitness of David de Gea, Pogba and co at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.
