Manchester United winger Daniel James believes the club have a ‘great chance’ of challenging for the Premier League title next season.
United have been in a period of transition over the past six-and-a-half years and their second-place finish during the 2017/18 season remains their best result since the title success in 2013.
Of late, the Red Devils have been far off from competing with fierce rivals Manchester City and Liverpool for the title but James feels the club could significantly close the gap to the top next term.
“I think next season is obviously massive for us, we’ve had quite a few boys injured, a few long-term obviously, Marcus [Rashford], Paul [Pogba] and yourself,” He told teammate Scott McTominay in a recent episode of The Huddle.
“I think once we get them all back and everyone is back together, I think with the rotation of the squad we’ve got a great chance of challenging [for the title] next season.”
United have made an improvement during the course of the current campaign and they were 11 matches unbeaten in all competitions before the season was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.
As such, there are positive signs but a title challenge could be a tough ask next season, given the players are still getting to know each other’s strengths unlike Liverpool, who have a settled squad at their disposal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will definitely have the chance to improve on the quality within the current squad and the potential arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish would definitely enhance the club’s goalscoring exploits.
Still, the question lies whether the players can peak at the same time while avoiding untimely injuries, which has not been the case over the past few years.
