Crazy stat highlights Erik ten Hag’s £15M transfer mistake

Manchester United and Erik ten Hag made a transfer mistake by offloading Anthony Elanga to Nottingham Forest in the summer.

Elanga has made a fine start to his life at Forest, bagging four goals and registering three assists in 18 league appearances.

His four goals are as many as Man United’s forwards have netted combined this term.

He has directly contributed to 37% of the goals Forest have scored.

The Red Devils sanctioned his exit for £15 million as Ten Hag considered him out-of-favour due to the presence of Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho.

In hindsight, this deal looks like another transfer blunder as Man United’s attack continues to misfire.

Rashford, Garnacho and Martial have scored four goals between them.

Rasmus Hojlund and Antony are yet to score in the league.

Jadon Sancho has been out of the team for months following his social media outbursts against Ten Hag.

There are rumours that his contract will be terminated as he will not apologise to the manager.

Selling Elanga seemed to be the right call in the summer as he was a peripheral figure under the Dutchman.

He started only seven times and did not play a single minute in United’s final 13 league games.

The Red Devils also hoped to integrate Amad Diallo into the first team after his magnificent loan spell with Sunderland.

However, he suffered an injury in the pre-season and is yet to recover fully.

Elanga would have added more depth as he can play all three attacking positions.

He would have seen more game time if he had still been a United player.
