Confirmed: Man Utd vs Everton lineups

Manchester United need a win at home to Everton this afternoon to go joint top of the Premier League with Manchester City to end the weekend.

We head into this afternoon’s game at Old Trafford off the back of a 3-0 thrashing of FC Basel in the Champions League on Tuesday night, whilst Everton were on the reverse end of the same scoreline at Atalanta two days later in the Europa League.

Romelu Lukaku and Wayne Rooney have both been named as starters to face their former clubs after going in opposite directions over the summer.

The two teams have been confirmed as:

Manchester United

David de Gea; Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Ashley Young; Nemanja Matic, Marouane Fellaini; Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford; Romelu Lukaku

Substitutes: Sergio Romero, Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial

Marouane Fellaini makes his first start of the season in place of the injured Paul Pogba, as Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera are named among the substitutes.

Ashley Young’s excellent performance at right-back versus FC Basel midweek as earned him a place at left-back today with Daley Blind not in the squad and Matteo Darmian named on the bench.  More news on Blind as we get it.

Marcus Rashford starts on the left wing today hoping to hurt the Everton defence with his pace and goal threat.

Everton

Jordan Pickford; Michael Keane, Phil Jagielka, Ashley Williams; Cuco Martina, Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies, Idrissa Gueye, Leighton Baines; Gyfli Sigurdsson,; Wayne Rooney

Subtitutes: Maarten Stekelenburg, Mason Holgate, Muhamed Besic, Davy Klaassen, Kevin Mirallas, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Sandro Ramirez

Wayne Rooney is named in the starting lineup to face the club he is the all-time top goalscorer of.  Former-United players Michael Keane and Morgan Schneiderlin also start for the Toffees.

Ronald Koeman has named a 3-5-1-1 formation with Rooney leading the line, supported by Gyfli Sigurdsson.  The visitors also have the young, exciting Tom Davies in the middle of the park, alongside defensive-minded players Schneiderlin and Idrissa Gueye.

Cuco Martina replaces Mason Holgate at right-back who drops to the bench.  Kevin Mirallas, Davy Klassen and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are all attacking options that the Dutch manager could call upon during the game.
