Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made two changes to the starting line-up for today’s Premier League clash against Luton Town at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils suffered a disappointing 4-3 loss to Copenhagen in the Champions League in midweek. They were cruising with a two-goal lead before Marcus Rashford’s sending off changed the complexion of the game.
Ten Hag will want a strong response from his players against the Hatters and ahead of the game, the Dutchman has opted to make two changes to the XI.
With Jonny Evans injured, the manager has made the decision to choose Victor Lindelof over Raphael Varane to partner Harry Maguire in the heart of the defence today.
Elsewhere, there is another change in the backline with Aaron Wan-Bissaka missing from the matchday squad after his recent comeback from a hamstring injury.
Sergio Reguilon has been picked to start in the left-back spot. Diogo Dalot, who started from the role in midweek, will move to the right side of the United defence.
Confirmed Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Luton Town: Onana; Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Reguilon; McTominay, Eriksen; Rashford, Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund.
In the pre-match presser, Ten Hag revealed that he prefers to play either Maguire or Varane at right centre-back and highlighted that they are not that effective from the left centre-back role.
The manager also mentioned that Victor Lindelof and Evans are better from the left. Hence, it does not come as a huge surprise that the Swede has been picked over Varane in the XI.
However, questions are bound to be raised over the future of the World Cup winner if Ten Hag persists with the same over the coming months. He could consider a mid-season exit.
