Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made two changes to the starting line-up for today’s FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.
The Red Devils are aiming to reach the semi-final of the FA Cup for the second year running and they need a huge performance in the derby.
Ahead of the game, Ten Hag has been forced into a couple of changes from the 2-0 Premier League win over Everton at Old Trafford last weekend.
Jonny Evans picked up a minor injury in the victory over the Toffees. In his place, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has returned to the starting XI after his hamstring issue.
Wan-Bissaka will line up at right-back with Diogo Dalot on the opposite end. Victor Lindelof is set to partner Raphael Varane at the heart of the defence.
The other noticeable change is up front with Rasmus Hojlund back after his muscle issue. He will be raring to go, having scored eight goals in his last eight games.
Hojlund has come in for midfielder Casemiro, who picked up an injury in the lead-up to the derby.
This means another tactical change for Ten Hag. Scott McTominay will move into midfield alongside Kobbie Mainoo. The latter could start in the number six role.
Confirmed Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Liverpool: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Dalot; McTominay, Mainoo; Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford; Hojlund.
United have a fantastic FA Cup history against their arch-rivals. They have not lost a home game against them in the famous old competition in over 100 years.
The club have the opportunity to preserve the record and also qualify for the last four of the FA Cup which remains their only chance for a trophy this term.
Casemiro’s absence in midfield is a big blow, but there is good news on the bench with Mason Mount back in the mix after a lengthy four-month injury absence.
