Confirmed Man Utd line-up vs Fulham, Garnacho on the bench

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made one change to the starting line-up for the Premier League curtain-raiser against Fulham tonight.

The Red Devils suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend.

They created plenty of clear-cut chances during the derby at the Wembley Stadium and could have easily won the game with better decision-making.

Ten Hag has made a solitary change from that defeat for tonight’s league opener versus Fulham.

Andre Onana starts in goal as usual. The Cameroon international has been ever-present for the Red Devils and has missed just one game since last season.

In defence, Jonny Evans has dropped to the bench. Noussair Mazraoui makes his debut and could start at right-back with Diogo Dalot on the opposite end.

Lisandro Martinez is set to partner Harry Maguire in the heart of the backline. Matthijs de Ligt is on the bench which is unsurprising, given his lack of pre-season minutes.

Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo continue in the centre of the park. The former was brilliant versus City and has the chance to carry the momentum into the new league season.

Further forward, Amad Diallo and Marcus Rashford start on the right and left wing respectively with Mason Mount occupying the attacking midfield role for United.

We are somewhat surprised with the manager’s decision to go with Rashford over Garnacho, who scored the crucial opening goal against the Cityzens last weekend.

Rashford, on the other hand, was guilty of squandering two golden scoring chances. He has still retained Ten Hag’s trust and has the opportunity to make his mark.

Bruno Fernandes looks set to feature from the false nine position. Joshua Zirkzee could make his debut off the bench, given he has barely played since the end of May.

Jadon Sancho is not in the matchday squad which should raise doubts over his club future.

Confirmed Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Fulham: Onana; Mazraoui, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Mainoo; Amad, Mount, Rashford; Fernandes.

Substitutes: Bayindir, De Ligt, Evans, Eriksen, McTominay, Collyer, Antony, Zirkzee, Garnacho.
