Manchester United will play their first home game of the 2026-27 season at Old Trafford against Ipswich Town on Sunday.
The Red Devils desperately need a response after suffering a disappointing defeat to Hull City in their opening league fixture last weekend.
Head coach Michael Carrick has now provided a crucial update on his squad ahead of the important encounter.
Carrick confirmed that Mason Mount is back in contention, but delivered a worrying update on Amad Diallo.
He said: “Amad won’t be involved this week. He’ll be out a little bit longer.
“Mason’s back round the group, he trained this week. That’s a real positive.”
Carrick also revealed that new signing Carlos Baleba could still need up to three weeks before he is fully match-fit.
The 45-year-old hinted that several players who joined pre-season late following an extended break after the FIFA World Cup could now be handed starting opportunities.
Mount played in the first four pre-season games in central midfield alongside Andrey Santos.
However, a knock against Paris Saint-Germain brought his pre-season to an abrupt halt and he has not featured since.
Carrick could ease Mount back into action by handing him a cameo role in the second half.
Diallo picked up an injury in training shortly before the Hull City clash. The £19 million signing could now face a race against time to return before the next international break in October.
His continued absence could leave Carrick with little choice but to retain Bryan Mbeumo on the right wing against Ipswich.
