Manchester United kick off 2019 with a trip to St James’ Park to take on struggling Newcastle United this evening.
The Magpies have had 24 hours extra rest than us since their last game but start the evening only three points above the relegation zone.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to make it four wins in as many games as the caretaker manager looks to continue an excellent start.
The two teams are confirmed as:
Manchester United
David de Gea; Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw; Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba; Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial
Substitutes: Sergio Romero, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young, Fred, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes three changes from the team that thrashed Bournemouth 4-1 on Sunday. Phil Jones comes in for the suspended Eric Bailly, Antonio Valencia is in for Ashley Young and Juan Mata replaces Jesse Lingard down the right wing as we predicted earlier today.
Alexis Sanchez is back among the substitutes after the boss said on Tuesday that the Chilean would be involved this evening. Romelu Lukaku remains on the bench after coming on in the second half and bagging a goal over the weekend.
Newcastle United
Martin Dubravka; DeAndre Yedlin, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett, Matt Ritchie; Isaac Hayden, Mohamed Diame, Christian Atsu; Ayoze Perez; Salomon Rondon
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Javier Manquillo, Florian Lejeune, Jonjo Shelvey, Kenedy, Yoshinori Muto, Joselu
Rafa Benitez has gone with a back five as we predicted earlier today with Matt Ritchie playing at left-back. Paul Dummett moves into a central role alongside Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar. Florian Lejeuene is back to take his place among the substitutes.
Up top is Salomon Rondon who is good at holding up the ball and an aerial threat that we need to be careful of in the few attacks that Newcastle do have this evening.
