Confirmed lineups: Man Utd vs Newcastle

Manchester United return from the international break to take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford in today’s evening kickoff in the Premier League.

The two teams are confirmed as:

Manchester United

David de Gea; Antonio Valencia, Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young; Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba; Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial; Romelu Lukaku

Substitutes: Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard, Zlatan Ibrahimovic

A number of returns for Manchester United, most notably is that of Paul Pogba to the centre of our midfield after being sidelined with a hamstring injury since mid-September.  The French star partners Nemanja Matic in front of the back four.

However, that back four sees Victor Lindelof start again as Eric Bailly and Phil Jones have both returned from the international break with injuries.  The Swede has struggled badly in his appearances for us to date and will partner Chris Smalling today.

Both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial start today with Juan Mata occupying the number 10 role.

Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic both return to the substitutes bench for the first time since being injury in the Europa League second leg victory over Anderlecht back in April.

Newcastle United

Rob Elliot; DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune, Ciaran Clarke, Javier Manquillo; Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Jacob Murphy; Dwight Gayle, Joselu

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Jesus Gamez, Chancel Mbemba, Mohamed Diame, Rolando Aarons, Ayoze Perez, Aleksandr Mitrovic

Dwight Gayle returns to Newcastle’s starting lineup in which Rafa Benitez could be playing two up top in a 4-4-2 formation.  Matt Ritchie has a lethal left boot cutting in from the right and Jacob Murphy is an exciting young prospect on the opposite flank.
