Confirmed lineups: Man Utd vs Liverpool

Manchester United are back in Premier League action today with a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool after the international break.

We’re looking to at least end the day joint top of the Premier League with Manchester City who are at home to Stoke City in one of the 3pm kickoffs.

Liverpool are already seven points adrift and even their deluded fans would surely give up hope on a 2017-18 Premier League title with defeat today.

The two teams for today’s game are confirmed as:

Manchester United

David de Gea; Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian; Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera; Ashley Young, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial; Romelu Lukaku

Substitutes: Sergio Romero, Daley Blind, Victor Lindelof, Axel Tuanzebe, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford

The biggest noticeable absence is Eric Bailly who isn’t in the matchday squad.  Jose Mourinho never gave an update on the Ivory Coast international who played the full 90 minutes for his country in their only game during the international break, on Friday 6 October.

Ashley Young starts down the right wing and should comfortably have the beating of Alberto Moreno to get plenty of supply into the box for the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial.

With Young going down the right wing Matteo Darmian has been given a rare start at left-back with Daley Blind only named among the substitutes.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan should have success in the number 10 role today whilst Anthony Martial should be looking to attack Joe Gomez at right-back.  Tire the young defender out and bring Marcus Rashford on the final 20 minutes to make an impact.

Liverpool

Simon Mignolet; Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno; Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho

Substitutes: Loris Karius, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ragnar Klavan, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Daniel Sturridge, Dominic Solanke

Jurgen Klopp hasn’t named any surprises in his starting XI, identical to what we predicted yesterday.  Liverpool are going with both Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino who were still in Brazil in the early hours of Wednesday morning with the former playing in the 3-0 win over Chile.

Liverpool will be looking to feed Mohamed Salah down the right wing up against Matteo Darmian.  The Italian will have been given the instructions to man-mark the Egyptian for 90 minutes.
