Manchester United are set to take on Liverpool at Anfield in under an hour’s time as we look to hand a Premier League title blow to our rivals.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have dropped points in two of their last three matches but had last weekend off having already been eliminated from the FA Cup.
The two teams are confirmed as:
Manchester United
David de Gea; Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw; Scott McTominay, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba; Juan Mata; Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku
Substitutes: Sergio Romero, Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot, Andreas Pereira, Fred, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez
Scott McTominay replaces Nemanja Matic in front of the back four after the Serbian picked up a knock in training yesterday. The only other change Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made from our 2-0 win at Chelsea in the FA Cup on Monday is David de Gea returning in goal.
Chris Smalling continues to partner Victor Lindelof at centre-back following an excellent return at Stamford Bridge at the start of last week. Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba were excellent against the Blues but could play a more defensive role this afternoon.
Ole has gone with Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku up front with Juan Mata in the number 10 role. Rashford could have success moving out on the left wing up against James Milner. The boss has named Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard on the bench.
Liverpool
Alisson; James Milner, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane
Substitutes: Substitutes: Simon Mignolet, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Naby Keita, Adam Lallana, Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge
Jurgen Klopp makes two changes from Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich as Virgil van Dijk returns from suspension to partner Joel Matip at centre-back and Fabinho pushes forward into central midfield with Naby Keita dropping to the bench.
We can certainly get at Joel Matip and James Milner in the Liverpool defence whilst Andy Robertson leaves a lot of space behind him when he bombs forward from left-back. Fabinho is a good holding midfielder but Jordan Henderson is a player that Paul Pogba should be looking to get the better of.
