Manchester United are set to take on Burnley at Old Trafford in under an hour’s time as we return to Premier League action following our 3-1 win at Arsenal in the FA Cup on Friday night.
Victory over the Gunners means that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has won all nine matches as caretaker manager of the Red Devils, seven of those coming in the league.
Three points against Burnley this evening would put us in joint-fourth place in the table as Chelsea are not in action for another 24 hours. The Clarets are unbeaten in their last four league matches but were hammered 5-0 at Manchester City in the FA Cup on Saturday. We were 2-0 winners in the reverse fixture at Turf Moor back in September.
The two teams for this evening’s game are confirmed as:
Manchester United
David de Gea; Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw; Nemanja Matic, Andreas Pereira, Paul Pogba; Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford
Substitutes: Sergio Romero, Diogo Dalot, Chris Smalling, Fred, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone with both Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford in his starting XI for the first time. Lukaku scored both goals in our 2-0 win against Burnley earlier in the season and was instrumental in our 3-1 win at Arsenal on Friday night.
Alexis Sanchez drops to the bench as Marcus Rashford is pushed out to the left wing and Juan Mata comes into the starting lineup on the right. Youngster Andreas Pereira is given a rare start in midfield as Ander Herrera is only among the substitutes.
No changes in defence as Ashley Young captains the side from right-back again and Chris Smalling is back among the substitutes after recently recovering from injury. Eric Bailly is absent from our matchday squad.
Burnley
Tom Heaton; Phil Bardsley, James Tarkowski, Ben Mee, Charlie Taylor; Jeff Hendrick, Jack Cork, Ashley Westwood, Dwight McNeil; Ashley Barnes, Chris Wood
Substitutes: Joe Hart, Stephen Ward, Ben Gibson, Joey Gudmundson, John Benson, Sam Vokes, Matej Vydra
Former Manchester United youth goalkeeper Tom Heaten makes his fifth Premier League start of the season for the Clarets. The 32-year-old has yet to suffer defeat this season and has only conceded twice. Another Ex-United player, Phil Bardsley, starts at right-back.
Impressive teenager Dwight McNeil continues to start down the left wing in Sean Dyche’s preferred 4-4-2 formation. Influential midfielder Joey Gudmundson has recovered from a knock but is only fit enough to be named among the substitutes.
