Confirmed: 8 players absent for Man Utd against Burton

Manchester United host Burton Albion in the third round of this season’s EFL Cup tomorrow night at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho is expected to make wholesale changes tomorrow evening as this is our fourth match in 12 days following the international break and we have a more important fixture at Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The boss has confirmed that David de Gea, Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly and Nemanja Matic will be rested for the visit of the Championship strugglers.

On top of this, Paul Pogba continues to be out with a hamstring injury.  It is yet to be confirmed how long the French international will be ruled out for but it is widely expected that he will not return this month.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who re-signed with us earlier this month, will also miss the EFL Cup tie through injury.  The football legend is not expected to be back to full fitness until the Christmas period.

Mourinho confirmed last week that Marcos Rojo is also a couple of months away from making his return from knee ligament damage.  Ashley Young started at left-back during our 4-0 thrashing of Everton on Sunday whilst Daley Blind has started the majority of games in this position this season.  However, it could be Luke Shaw who makes his first appearance of the season in this position tomorrow.

The eighth player who will not be facing Burton Albion is youngster Axel Tuanzebe.  The defender has been ruled out with a back injury, otherwise he may well have made an appearance.
