Concern for Man United: Bruno Fernandes set to miss Portugal clash against Norway due to injury

Manchester United captain is set to miss the upcoming clash for Portugal against Norway due to an injury.

Fernandes featured in the 1-0 win over Wales in the UEFA Nations League game on Thursday.

Portugal manager Jorge Jesus has now revealed that the United captain has been battling through an injury and will not be risked against Norway later this evening.

He said in the pre-match press conference (via Fotmob.com): “Against Wales, we went in with practically everyone physically available and came out with a complicated problem with Bruno Fernandes; we’ll see what happens.

“He’s coming off an injury at United, and he told me he’s been playing with that pain for the last three games, which is hindering him.

“It was one of the factors that prevented Bruno from playing at his best against Wales. I’ve already spoken to him, and I prefer not to risk it in this game, so he’s fully fit for the Denmark match.”

Major worry for Man United

It is hardly surprising that Fernandes has continued to push through the pain for both United and Portugal.

The 32-year-old came close to registering two assists against Wales, only for Cristiano Ronaldo to squander the opportunities.

Fernandes is renowned for his relentless commitment and rarely wants to miss a game, but even he needs to recognise that he cannot maintain that intensity indefinitely.

With a demanding season ahead, he will need to manage his fitness carefully and ensure he is capable of performing at his best when it matters most.

United head coach Michael Carrick will now be keeping a close eye on his talisman after the latest injury revelation.

Fernandes remains the most influential player in the United squad, making any injury concern involving the captain a major worry for the club.

Carrick will hope Portugal resist the temptation to take any unnecessary risks with their midfielder and allow him the recovery time he needs.

United face a hectic October schedule, with six games packed into just 20 days.

Fernandes is the heartbeat of this United side and having him play in those games will be very crucial for the side.
