Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao has admitted it would be an honour to play for Manchester United if the club came calling in the summer.
The Portuguese international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for the past two seasons and reports in Spain suggest Louis Van Gaal could try to lure the 27-year-old to Manchester this summer.
According to popular Spanish newspaper AS, the Real Madrid left-back has been identified as the man United want to strengthen their defensive options in the position, as Luke Shaw’s fitness problems have forced Van Gaal to deploy Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind as makeshift left-backs this season.
Coentrao, who’s under contract with the European champions until 2019, has been utilised sporadically by Carlo Ancelotti this season and has admitted he would relish the opportunity to revive his career away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
“I already showed that interest in playing there (at Manchester United). It’s one of the best clubs in the world, a club that I admire a lot. It would be an honour to play there,” he told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
